BIDV to issue int’l bonds for transport project

22/08/2007 -- 11:25 AM

Ha Noi (VNA) - The Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) will issue 500 million USD in international bonds in the 2008-2009 period to raise capital for a road project in the southern region.

Announcing the plan on August 21, BIDV General Director Tran Bac Ha said the project has an investment capital of 1.8 billion USD with 50 percent to be raised from investors.

The bank is working on a scheme to set up a joint-stock company to implement the project under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

According to Ha the issuance was expected to open up a new trend for Vietnamese enterprises in attracting capital from outside sources and contribute to setting up a bond market in Viet Nam.

BIDV has recently issued 3 trillion VND (187.5 million USD) in long-term bonds, of which 48 percent were brought up by foreign investors.

The BIDV leader said the bank is finalising its equitisation plan to submit to the Prime Minister in September.-Enditem
