Enterprises number 200,000: seminar
HCM City (VNA) – Practical measures to help Vietnamese enterprises raise business effectiveness in the equitisation process and become reliable and competitive partners in the process of international economic integration were touched upon at a seminar entitled “Equitisation: the Road Ahead” held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 17.During the seminar, organised by the Viet Nam-EU Business Forum (VEUBF), a cooperative project between the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the European Commerce Chamber in Viet Nam (EuroCham), participants also heard presentations on equitisation made by famous Vietnamese and foreign experts.
VEUBF Co-Chairman Alain Cany said the seminar was designed both to inform investors of opportunities to be expected from Viet Nam’s ongoing equitisation process and to provide a forum for the public and private sectors to discuss the challenges ahead as over 2,000 state-owned enterprises will go public between now and 2010.
According to Doan Duy Khuong, VCCI Vice President, the Vietnamese business community has grown rapidly with 200,000 enterprises and acted as a driving force for the economy.
By late 2006, more than 3,200 enterprises were equitised and the number of state-owned enterprises decreased to nearly 2,000 from 12,000 in 1993. Most businesses have got better outcomes after equitisation.-Enditem
