Viet Nam, Russia strengthen seafood cooperation

Ha Noi (VNA) – Vietnamese and Russian agencies are working on a cooperative document facilitating the export of Vietnamese seafood products to Russia.

The National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (NAFIQAVED) and the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Physio-Sanitary Surveillance (VPSS) aim to sign the document within this month.

Over the past years, Russia has been one of the major markets for Vietnamese seafood. In the first half of this year, the Russian market accounted for 5.2 percent of Viet Nam’s total seafood export turnover, ranking fifth among the country’s seafood importers after the EU, the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

According to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP), Russia decided to resume import of seafood products from 11 Vietnamese businesses as of August 7 after a hiatus.

The decision was made after a VPSS delegation was satisfied with infrastructure, breeding techniques and hygienic conditions at a tra catfish farm and 19 seafood processing establishments in Viet Nam during their inspection tour from July 8-18.-Enditem
