Scientists help Sierra Leone boost rice crops
HCM City (VNA) – Six Vietnamese agronomists have set off for Sierra Leone to help the African country develop its rice crops.
Viet Nam is expected to become Sierra Leone’s main supplier of rice seeds in the future, said Vo Tong Xuan, Rector of the An Giang University, who led the delegation.
Xuan also said that this was one of the first steps in developing new land for the Vietnamese rice paddy and that previous tests showed the two Vietnamese varieties, OM 2417 and Jasmine, had showed satisfactory results in the African country after they turned out 3.5-4.9 tonnes per ha last year.
According to the rector, 20 outstanding Vietnamese farmers will be sent to Sierra Leone to grow rice crops next year.-Enditem
