Son La: 42 Years In Jail For 7 Corrupt Land Officials
The people’s court of the northern province of Son La has given 42 years in prison to 7 defendants and 4 years and a half year probation for two others who were involved in land corruption in Son La town.
This is the biggest case of land corruption in Son La town so far.
Ca Van la, former head of the town Department of Natural Resources and the Environment and his assistants had made false documents to usurp 6,000 square meters of land worth hundreds of millions of VND.
He was given 10 years in prison for abusing his position by embezzling.
The others have sentences from 24 months to eight years in prison.
The judgment has also suggested reclaiming 50 plots of land illegally sold by the defendants.
The defendants will also have to pay back hundreds of million of VND to people who were take advantage of.
