Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Vietnamese embassy in Cambodia held a get-together with the Cambodian press in Phnom Penh on August 24 to mark Viet Nam's 62nd National Day (Sept. 2).
Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information and spokesperson for the Cambodian government, and representatives of many media agencies were present.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Chien Thang spoke about the September 2, 1945 event and other historic events in Viet Nam over the past 62 years, particularly the great achievements of the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam since 1986.
The Vietnamese diplomat expressed his pleasure at the development of ties between the two countries under the joint sanctioned motto of "Good neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive and sustainable cooperation".
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Khieu Kanharith spoke of the significance of September 2, 1945 when Viet Nam 's declaration of independence was forwarded by late President Ho Chi Minh, establishing the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, former name of the present Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
Khieu Kanharith expressed his sincere thanks to Viet Nam for its assistance to Cambodia in all areas, including within the media and the press.
The Cambodian minister said that the two countries' media work has grown markedly of late and the two sides should promote exchanges to increase mutual understanding between the press circles of the two countries. -Enditem | |
