Private business develops ostrich farm
Cao Bang (VNA) – A private business in northern border Cao Bang province has poured over 3.5 billion VND (roughly 218,750 USD) into an ostrich farm, paving the way for a new direction of animal husbandry in the mountainous locality.Hoa Binh Construction Enterprise ostrich farm is currently the province’s biggest livestock breeding farm, generating stable jobs for 20 locals.
Director Tong Van Hoa said the farm’s 30 ostriches, supplied by a state-run poultry business, have grown fast, with their weight increasing 10 kg a month on average to 100-125 kg each after one year of breeding.
“We plan to develop our flock of ostriches to around 500 by 2010,” Hoa said, adding that at present, his business is seeking to expand its outlet markets to Guangxi, China, a big farm product consumption market bordering Cao Bang province.
Director Hoa also revealed that along with ostriches, he also plans to raise a herd of 200 cows and develop a 10-ha meadow.-Enditem
