US Marketing Expert Has High Hopes For Vietnamese Economy



The Vietnamese economy is like an airplane which is set to fly much higher thanks to its people’s good qualities, marketing guru Philip Kotler told a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City Thursday.

The nation could match the economic achievements of Japan and other regional countries since its people were known for their hospitality, industriousness, and desire for success, he said.

He was impressed by Vietnam’s rapid growth and hoped it would become a “globally-known brand” in the next few years, he said.

To boost further growth, he advised local authorities to facilitate business activities, inspire local and foreign investment, and develop IT for effective management of time and human resources.

Local brands should progress step-by-step from the domestic market, regional markets, and finally more distant ones, he suggested.

Implementing this strategy could help Vietnam grow into one of the world’s top ten or 10 most developed economies in the near-future, he said.

Kotler presides over the “New Marketing for New Age” conference in the city Friday which will be attended by more than 700 leading enterprises from Vietnam and neighboring countries.

He has been named as one of the four most influential management experts of all time along with Jack Welch, Bill Gates, and Peter Drucker by Britain’s Financial Times newspaper.

He developed the highly influential social marketing concept and wrote one of the world’s leading marketing “how-to” books, Marketing Management.

Kotler is visiting Vietnam at the invitation of the HCMC-based Pace Education Group which offers training for CEOs and CFOs.
