ASEAN ministers discuss economic integration

Ha Noi (VNA) - ASEAN economic ministers on August 24 began to work out details on how to speed up the economic integration and hasten ASEAN negotiations on free trade areas.

Addressing the annual meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)’s economic ministers in Manila, the Philippines, the host Trade Minister Peter Favila said it is now time for the member countries of the regional bloc to build the ASEAN Economic Community.

The ministers are to approve on August 25 a final draft of the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint, a document that will chart the steps the ASEAN countries will take to make the bloc an economic community within eight years.

ASEAN leaders are scheduled to adopt the blueprint at their summit in Singapore in November. –Enditem
