Condoms Take To The Fields

Young party members are giving condoms to farmers in southern Vietnam’s An Giang province as the area’s farmers have little knowledge of HIV and tend to frequent prostitutes during the summer harvest.

Tran Thanh Nha, head of the provincial Young Communist Party Committee, said Sunday that the “Condoms walk to the fields” program’s 80 volunteers are taking to the fields to offer free consultations on safe sex while distributing condoms and educational leaflets to farmers in four districts.

The harvest usually brings about increased prostitution activities, both on the part of solicitors and clients, as working girls capitalize on farmers who want to unload a little cash and stress at the end of the long season, explained Nha.
