Construction of Nho Que 1 hydroelectric plant starts up

Ha Noi (VNA) - Construction of the Nho Que 1 hydroelectric power plant began in Meo Vac district in northern mountainous Ha Giang province on Aug. 10.

When completed the Nho Que 1 plant, built by the Northern Electricity Development and Investment Joint Stock Company 1 (NEDI 1), will be the ninth hydroelectric plant in the province.

The 32 MW two-turbine project on the Nho Que tributary, a branch of the Gam river system, is being financed to the tune of 688 billion VND.

Nho Que 1 will produce 129 million kWh of power annually and aid in preventing floods that will create favourable conditions for transport and fishery development for ethnic minority people that reside near the river.

The plant will begin retaining water in August 2008 and is slated to generate electricity in March 2010.

Under a plan on hydroelectricity generation for the Gam river, construction of the Nho Que 3 and 2 plants on the Nho Que river branch will kick off late this year. Both plants, when completed, will generate a total of 180 MW for the national grid.-Enditem
