Pivotal economic zone to grow in central province

Ha Tinh (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a master plan to build a multi-purpose economic zone at the Vung Ang port in central Ha Tinh province.

Under the master plan by 2025, Vung Ang EZ will become a major centre for metallurgy, port services, labour-intensive industries, and processing industries for export.

The plan will cover close to 22,800ha of land in nine communes of Ky Anh district, or 3.8 percent of Ha Tinh’s natural area, which will have a population estimated at 99,000 by 2015 and 180,000 by 2025.

The project will include a 730 ha non-tariff area covering the Son Duong seaport and a trade-service-industry area.

It will also accommodate a port-industrial zone housing the Vung Ang port, a steel industrial complex, and a thermo-electric power plant.

A residential area will be built to relocate local residents, along with schools, a trade and financial services centre and healthcare, cultural and sport facilities.

Vung Ang’s proximity to major transport routes is an advantage for the establishment and development of a general economic zone; it is located next to the National Highway 1A, only 109 kilometres from Vinh Airport.

The area is also near international linking routes and the East-West Corridor, which runs from central Viet Nam to Laos and northeastern part of Thailand.

With such a good location, Vung Ang EZ is expected to become a major commercial hub that will boost the economic development for central Viet Nam and form a gateway to the East Sea for countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region as Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.-Enditem
