On arrival he was welcomed by Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Brunei’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, who said the PM’s visit was an important step in the broader ties of the two nations.

Establishing diplomatic ties in 1992, Viet Nam and Brunei have seen their relationship move from strength to strength, particularly in the areas of commerce, investment, trade, science-technology, and culture. Both Viet Nam and the tiny oil rich Sultanate have been active in moving their relationship forward by exchanging a growing number of high-level delegations that have signed a bevy of agreements and treaties.

However, with two-way trade valued at 5 million USD, pundits have said that potential, in economy and trade in particular as yet was along way from being met.

As scheduled, PM Dung will meet Sultan Bolkiah the same day and will address a meeting of Vietnamese and Brunei business circles on August 16 before leaving Brunei to round off his tour of five ASEAN countries.-Enditem
