Vietnam Eyes Increased Exports To China
Vietnam plans to focus on bolstering cross-border trade with China and boosting trade promotion activities so that two-way export hits US$11.1 billion by 2015.
In a blueprint titled ‘developing import-export with China in the 2007-15 period’, the Ministry of Trade points out that the trade deficit with China continues to surge with Chinese goods flooding the country’s market.
Thus, stepping up exports to China would be a sine qua non to tackle the deficit, it says.
It plans to speed up establishment of trade centers on the Chinese border to boost overland trade and prevent smuggling.
It will also organize trade promotion activities to enable Vietnamese goods to gain a foothold in the Chinese market.
Firstly, Vietnamese businesses should have information about their Chinese partners to enter into tie-ups. They should also cooperate with major international supermarket chains to sell products to their China operations.
Secondly, the Vietnamese government should help firms produce of goods favored in China and create an environment conducive to exports to this market. Firms should also carefully study new items that are in demand in China.
