Avocado Promotion Campaign Boosts Sales


A massive avocado promotion in Ho Chi Minh City has multiplied daily avocado sales tenfold at the city’s major Saigon Co.op Mart and METRO Cash & Carry supermarkets.

More than 25,000 avocado information leaflets were distributed in the city this week and last and thousands of consumers were given free avocado samples.

To open the promotion, an exhibition including avocado cooking demonstrations was held at METRO’s main location in district 2.

Avocados are now selling out at the store daily, usually within four hours of opening time.

On the back of the promotion’s success, a much larger campaign is to be planned for the new avocado season in 2008.

This campaign is part of the DAKADO project (see www.dakado.vn), which aims to bolster and professionalize the avocado sector in Dak Lak Province.

The two year program is funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development within the framework of the German Institute for Technical Cooperation (GTZ)’s Small and Medium Enterprise Development Program.

The project is implemented by the Dak Lak Center for Science and Technology Application, the Western Agriculture Science Institute and Fresh Studio Innovations Asia Ltd.
