Budget laptops released onto booming computer market

HCM City (VNA) – A number of inexpensive laptops are going to be released in Viet Nam soon, including the Dell Vostro for 449 USD.

The laptop market has an annual growth of 100 percent, industry officials said.

Along with Dell, the Taiwan-based Asutek Computer plans to introduce its new laptop for 199 USD next month. The company also sells an Asus laptop for 245 USD-299 USD.

Taiwan-based Acer, which is well known in Viet Nam for its affordable laptop models, has been selling several models for 550 USD. Their current promotion consists of a 50 USD discount or a free printer.

To compete with foreign models, the local CMS Computer company has introduced its CMS Sputnik V6H3211 laptop for 8 million VND (500 USD), targeting students and younger workers.

With a 14.1 inch mirror screen, 512MB RAM, an 80 Gb hard disk, and Intel Celeron M Processor 430-1.73 GHz, the Sputnik has been a hit and has sold out.

CMS also makes the V6K3211 for 8.5 million VND (520 USD).

“CMS and Intel are cooperating to boost laptop manufacturing in Viet Nam. At these competitive prices, laptop will replace heavy desktop computers,” Nguyen Minh Huyen, brand director of CMS, said.-Enditem
