Ha Noi sees bright future with foreign investors

Ha Noi (VNA) – Ha Noi will exert greater efforts to speed up administrative reforms in the hopes of bringing in more capital from abroad, affirmed Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phi Thai Binh.

Binh made the remark at a ceremony in Ha Noi on August 31 to honour outstanding companies and individuals among the more than 1,000 foreign-invested businesses operating in the capital city.

Over the past eight months of this year, Ha Noi has reeled in 221 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total registered capital of close to 919 million USD. 24 other businesses were granted permission to increase their capital by an additional 186.2 million USD.

During the period, the city’s foreign-invested sector recorded a year-on-year increase of 33.1 percent in industrial value with leather, furniture and metal products being amongst the biggest gainers.

In 2006, Ha Noi wooed 194 FDI projects, worth more than 1.12 billion USD, ranking second among localities across the country. Projects of note included the 314 million USD Tay Ho residential area, 76 million USD for Viet Nam Panasonic Communications company and the 50 million USD Panasonic Electronic Devices company.-Enditem
