Trans-Viet Nam Toyota concerts make Ha Noi leg

Ha Noi (VNA)- The annual Toyota charitable concert began the first tran-national tour at the fully-packed Ha Noi Opera House on July 29 with the appearance of famous Japanese conductor Tetsuiji Honna and violist Ai Okumura. Their performance of German composer Felix Mendelsohn’s works such as Wedding March and Midsummer Night’s Dream had received standing ovation from the audiences. The tour, that will roll through the northern port city of Hai Phong, the former imperial city of Hue, the famous seabeach Nha Trang town along the central coast, and Ho Chi Minh City, aims to raise fund for disadvantaged young music talents in Viet Nam. All proceeds will be sent to two Nguyen Dinh Chieu Schools in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to support music teaching for blind children as well as to cultural and art schools in Hai Phong, Hue and central Khanh Hoa province in support of poor, gifted music students. Toyota concerts have run in Viet Nam for 10 consecutive years since 1998 but this year is the first that will be conducted trans-national, said organisers from the Toyota Viet Nam Foundation and the National Symphony Orchestra. The tour is one of four major activities organised annually by the Toyota foundation with an initial financing of 4 million USD funded entirely by Toyota Motor Viet Nam. Since its inception, Toyota Viet Nam Foundation has focused on community-based activities to promote cultural and social development, particularly the educational quality and human resource development.--Enditem
