Exports up 19.3 percent in eight months

Ha Noi (VNA) – The country exported more than 31.2 billion USD in the first eight months of the year, up 19.3 percent over the same period last year, however 37 billion USD was laid out on imports, a year-on-year rise of almost 30 percent, according to the General Statistics Office.

The imports chiefly include machineries and equipment that have not yet been manufactured in Viet Nam.

Rice became the eighth product member with export turnover surpassing the 1 billion USD mark, along with crude oil, textiles and apparels, electronic and computer components, footwear, coffee, wooden products and seafood.

Other products recording spectacular growth in export value included animal and vegetable oil, up almost 159 percent and groundnuts, 216 percent.

To maintain high export growth rates over the remaining months of the year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has asked domestic businesses to promote production, expand outlets and improve the quality of export items, especially agricultural and seafood products.-Enditem
