Da Nang approves market spending

The central city of Da Nang plans to spend about 260 billion VND (16.2 million USD) in building and upgrading markets to improve wholesale and retail trade in the city from 2008-2015.

The first to get a face lift will be the Hoa Cuong agriculture wholesale market, which will be expanded under a 37 billion VND (2.1 million USD) construction project. Once complete, the 21,000 sq.m-space will house around 1,500 businesses.

Another 50,000 sq.m wholesale market will be built at Hoa Khanh Nam commune, Lien Chieu district, costing an estimated 40 billion VND (2.5 million USD).

City planners will also break ground on an international trade exhibition centre next month and the Hoa Phuoc market worth a combined 172 billion VND.

There are also plans to spend 4.5 billion VND to upgrade eight markets in Hoa Ninh, Le Trach, Yen Ne, Hoa Nhon, Hoa Khuong, Hoa Lien, Hoa Phu and Nam Thanh.

According to Le Van Diu, head of the city’s trade management board, there are 88 markets already in operation in and around Da Nang.
