Cao Bang boasts untapped tourist potential

Ha Noi (VNA) - Cao Bang's natural landscapes and historical and cultural sites are a tourist treasure trove waiting to be snapped up by developers.

The northern border province houses 224 historical relic sites and beauty spots, including 23 national relics such as Pac Bo cave, Tran Hung Dao forest, the Mac dynasty's citadel, the Na Lu citadel and the Ky Sam temple.

Located in Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Ban Gioc waterfall has been described as one of most beautiful falls in Indochina . The Ban Gioc Waterfall, 53 m high and 300 m wide, is an ideal place for a complex of resorts, ecotourism and cultural events.

About 3 km from Ban Gioc Fall is another famous beauty spot - Nguom Ngao cave (Tiger cave), which was formed long ago by limestone weathered by wind and water.

According to an initial survey, the cave system is about 2,100 m long reaching heights of up to 60 m.

Arriving in Cao Bang, visitors have the chance to see relics of the Vietnamese revolution and President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary activities, including Pac Bo cave, Karl Marx mountain, Lenin stream and Khuoi Nam cottage.

Cao Bang has spent hundreds of billions of VND upgrading Pac Bo into a tourist site.

Recently, the province inaugurated an ecological tourism site at Thang Hen lake in Quoc Toan commune, Tra Linh district. Thang Hen (Tail of Bee) Lake, about 300 m wide and 1,000 m long, is one of 36 high mountainous lakes in Viet Nam . The site is also an ideal mountainous resort.

Many different ethnic minority groups also add to Cao Bang's charm.

According to the province's Tourism Service, the number of visitors to Cao Bang has risen 20 percent a year. In the first five months of 2007, Cao Bang welcomed 23,000 visitors, a 17 percent increase over last year.-Enditem
