Southern Bridge Can Collapse Any Time: Official

The 43-year-old Dong Nai Bridge in the eponymous southern Vietnamese province, connecting three industrial hubs including Ho Chi Minh City, can collapse any time, an official has warned.Colonel Nguyen Phi Hung, provincial deputy police chief, speaking at a conference Monday, blamed it on the increasing traffic which was overloading the bridge. He had warned the Ministry of Transport several times but it had said the bridge “had seriously degraded but cannot collapse”.Tran Van Quan, deputy director of the province’s transport department, told the conference that it was not until recently when the local administration had directly pleaded with Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung that he had instructed a state-owned company to do a feasibility study for a new bridge. The bridge links Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces and HCMC.Source: Tuoi Tre
