General Secretary Manh visited and presented gifts to families of flood victims, who lost relatives or houses and properties due to the calamity, in Ha Linh, Huong Xuan, Phuong My communes in Huong Khe district and Duc Bong commune in Vu Quang district.

The Party leader expressed his deep sympathies with the victims' families on their losses. He affirmed that the Party, State and people throughout the country will do their best to help Ha Tinh people to overcome difficulties.

The Party leader praised the great efforts of local authorities at all levels to provide urgent rescue operations and relief for people in flood-hit areas.

He required the province to ensure that there will be no case of hunger, safe water shortage or lack of medicine in this period. He urged the local authorities and relevant agencies to spare no efforts to prevent epidemics, restore schools and classrooms for children before the beginning of the new school year early next month.

At a working session with the Party leader on Aug. 19, key officials of Ha Tinh province reported to him the socio-economic situation, defence and security affairs and the Party building work in the province as well as damages caused by the recent storm and activities to overcome the aftermath.

The Party leader said: "Ha Tinh is among provinces with low economic growth rates. With slow economic restructuring, it remains an agricultural province. The province's per capita income is equal to half of the national average; it mainly relies on the central subsidy and has poor infrastructures."

"Ha Tinh should fully tap its potential and advantages and effectively use all sources of investment to make a strong advancing step in industry and accelerate the implementation of key projects; while paying attention to trade, tourism and service development and ensuring a proper development of agriculture and rural areas towards industrialisation, modernisation and national and international economic integration," the leader said.

He also asked the provincial Party organisation and authorities to promote personnel training to prepare a contingent of qualified cadres for a new development stage.-Enditem
