Deputy Prime Minister visits Can Tho

Can Tho (VNA) – Can Tho City should focus on industrial development, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung said on Aug. 20.

As the centre of the Mekong Delta region, the city should fully develop its potential and promote all its advantages to become a full-fledged industrial city, he said.

Hung added that the city should mobilise external help to attract investment from both domestic and foreign sectors.

Speaking with local authorities during a conference on building and developing Can Tho “in the time of industrialisation and modernisation,” Hung also urged the city to review its planning and concentrate on constructing modern infrastructure.

“The city needs to focus on building industrial zones, which use advanced technology, especially in the processing, garment and textile industries. This will help create jobs, not only for the locals but for others living in the Mekong Delta as well,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister also praised local authorities for their achievements in socio-economic development and security enhancement.

For the past two years, Can Tho has implemented the Politburo’s Resolution 45-NQ/TW on industrialisation and modernisation, and the city now boasts annual economic growth of 15.99 percent. Average annual income has also risen to 15.67 million VND (980 USD) per person.

The city has also paid attention to its social policies, especially in hunger elimination and poverty reduction, support for families of who have made significant contributions to the country and job creation and vocational training for local people.-Enditem
