NA Chairman attends AIPA Executive Committee’s meeting

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong joined head delegates from ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) member and observer countries in a meeting of the AIPA Executive Committee on August 19 to discuss and adopt the agenda of and documents to be submitted to the AIPA plenary session.

The meeting also looked into topics for dialogues between parliaments of AIPA member and observer nations.

The meeting was presided over by Tan Sri Dato Seri Diraja Ramli bin Ngah Talib, President of the AIPA and Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives.

Earlier, more than 50 female members of parliament from AIPA member and observe countries, and AIPA’s dialogue partners debated and adopted three important resolutions regarding the elimination of violence against women and children, assisting women in hunger eradication, poverty reduction and economic development, and the role of women in policy making.

The delegates emphasised the need to improve awareness, knowledge and educational standards for women, considering these a key to ensure the success of hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and agreed to boost the sharing of experience in the field between AIPA member countries.

They also pointed out the need to increase the capabilities and role of women in making policies in all aspects of the society.

The Vietnamese delegation arrived in Kuala Lumpur on August 19 to take part in the six-day event at the invitation of Tan Sri Dato Seri Diraja Ramli bin Ngah Talib, President of the AIPA and Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives.-Enditem
