Tokyo (VNA) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said he’s willing to wrap up a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) with India upon his arrival in New Delhi.
“Japan and India have entered into a new era under the strategic partnership. We hope to conclude an economic partnership agreement of high quality,'' PM Abe was quoted as saying at a business forum on August 21, referring to FTA negotiations between the two countries which began in January.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was also present at the gathering, called for Japanese investment, particularly in areas of infrastructure such as electric power and transportation, to help his country attain double-digit economic growth.
Meanwhile, Fujio Mitarai, Chairman of the Japan Business Federation, said Japanese companies in the auto, distribution and other sectors are planning to invest more than 200 billion yen in India over the next five years.
On August 22, PM Abe will make a policy speech at the Indian parliament in which he plans to call for stronger cooperation between the two major Asian economies.-Enditem | |
