Japanese PM starts tour of three Asian countries

Tokyo (VNA) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in Indonesia on August 19 on the first leg of his tour that will also take him to India and Malaysia.

During the week-long trip, PM Abe will hold talks with leaders of the three countries, focusing on his proposed measures to prevent global warming.

In Indonesia, the Japanese PM is expected to sign a bilateral economic partnership agreement with the host country’s President Susilo B. Yudhoyono. He is also scheduled to deliver a speech on Japan's future policy toward the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The two leaders will also issue a statement calling for bilateral cooperation in the fields of climate change, environment, and energy.

In India, PM Abe will make a policy speech at the country’s parliament in which he plans to call for stronger bilateral cooperation between the two major Asian economies.

In Malaysia, PM Abe will meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and sign a joint statement calling for cooperation in various areas ranging from political and security dialogue to the economy and the environment.

Accompanying Abe will be a 200-member mission of major Japanese businesses led by Fujio Mitarai, chairman of the Japan Business Federation.- Enditem
