RoK-US military exercise kicks off
Seoul (VNA) - The Republic of Korea (RoK) and the US on August 20 kicked off their annual joint military exercise, codenamed "Ulchi Focus Lens."The war game, conducted every year since 1975, is largely computer-simulated but does involve close to 10,000 US troops stationed in both the RoK and abroad.
The drill, which will run through August 31, comes as the two Koreas prepare for a second leadership-summit in early October.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) warned the US earlier this month that the joint war maneuvers would have a catastrophic effect on ongoing six-nation talks aimed at ending the DPRK's nuclear programme.-Enditem
