RoK to ship emergency flood aid to DPRK
Ha Noi (VNA) – An emergency relief aid worth 7.1 billion won (about 7.5 million USD) will be shipped late this week to help the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) overcome damages caused by a recent flood.The DPRK has accepted the offer of the Republic of Korea (RoK), the RoK’s Yonhap news agency cited Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung as saying.
The relief goods include instant noodles, bottled water, powdered milk, blankets and medicines, the official said.
An association of pro – unification civic organisation in Seoul has announced a plan to send 15 billion won worth of relief supplies to the DPRK, Yonhap noted.
About 88,000 households had been affected by the flood, the DPRK’s state media said on August 18, adding that over 220 people were dead or missing and about 450,000 tonnes of grain was lost. – Enditem
