Taiwan's passenger plane goes up in smoke

Beijing (VNA) - One more person was killed by a landslide in east China's Zhejiang province, bringing the death toll from typhoon Sepat to 15, said Chinese Xinhua news agency on August 20.

The deceased was a man in his 40s, who was riding in a van in Wenzhou City’s Gangnan County when the landslide smashed into the side of the vehicle carrying 19 passengers and shut it off the road. Eighteen managed to escape, serious injury, while two were currently admitted to hospital.

Sepat brought with it over 40 mm of rain in an hour to Wencheng County, disrupting power supply in eight townships and villages, said the agency.

Before making landfall, Sepat caused a tornado that slammed into buildings and killed 11 people in Cangnan Town on the night of August 19.

Typhoon Sepat lashed the central and northern areas of Fujian, damaging 366 houses in Quanzhou City, destroying 5,920 hectares of crops, and cut off road traffic and power supply lines in some regions that affected 162,600 people.

Total economic losses caused by typhoon Sepat in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces are estimated at more than 100 million USD, Xinhua reported.-Enditem
