Viet Nam builds irrigational works for Lao farms

Vientiane (VNA) – Lao farmers are set to benefit as two irrigation works built from non-refundable aid from the Vietnamese government were completed on August 22.

An agreement underscoring the hand-over was signed between Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and Lao Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sitaheng Rasphol.

The Dongphosy and Thapha Nongpong irrigation systems, built at a cost of more than 103 billion VND (more than 8 million USD), are capable of supplying water to more than 2,100 ha.

Work on construction of the two water resources projects commenced in 2000, 2001 respectively and were completed in March 2006 and 2007.

Addressing the official hand-over in Vientiane, the two ministers stressed the significance of the two projects in helping the Lao farmers and considered them as a demonstration of effective assistance that the government and people of Viet Nam have given to the Lao people.

The hand-over ceremony was held on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Viet Nam-Lao Friendship and Comprehensive Cooperation Treaty.-Enditem
