Quang Binh (VNA) – The storm-ravaged province of Quang Binh is long overdue for a plan that incorporates the resettlement of people from high-risk areas to safe places, afforestation and flood prevention methods.
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh made the remark on his tour of the central province from August 20-21, where he urged provincial authorities to work overtime in helping the worst affected from the floods to get back on their feet as quickly as possible.
Underscoring the importance he places on the plan and the ongoing humanitarian efforts in the area, General Secretary Manh stressed that top priority was to ensure flood, water and medicine supply to flood victims.
While distributing gifts and emergency relief packages in the Phu Hoa and Mai Hoa communes, the party leader also urged the local authorities to pay due attention to epidemics and disease controls and the refurbishments and reconstructions of schools for the upcoming new school year.
Addressing another matter, the Party General Secretary said that problems that arise from natural disasters in the area are compounded by an under performing provincial economy and a high poverty rate.
In order to address the situation by 2010, Quang Binh should focus its attention on industries such as cement, glass production, forestry product processing and tourism so as to drag itself from the list of the country's poorest provinces, he concluded.-Enditem | |
