Vietnam's National Day Gets Cheered Abroad
Vietnamese embassies in Cambodia , Thailand , Russia and India on August 30 celebrated the country's 62nd National Day (September 2).
The embassy in Cambodia hosted a banquet on the occasion which was attended by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister cum Defence Minister Tea Banh and Deputy Prime Minister Nhek Bunchhay among other distinguished guests.
Deputy PM Tea Banh congratulated the Vietnamese people on their gains recorded over the past 62 years and expressed his hopes that the traditional friendship between the two countries would be constantly strengthened.
To mark the Day, Vietnamese diplomats plan to pay tribute to Vietnamese fallen volunteer soldiers at the Monument to Cambodia-Viet Nam Friendship.
In Thailand , Ambassador Nguyen Duy Hung presided over a banquet that saw the presence of two members of the Thai Privy Council Siddhi Savetsila and Thepkamol Devakula, and Secretary of the National Security Council Winai Phattiyakul.
The Vietnamese Ambassador reiterated the country's foreign policy of openness, diversification and multilateralisation and the Vietnamese people's wish to further ratchet up the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Thailand.
On this occasion, overseas Vietnamese in Thailand raised 400,000 baht to assist victims of floods and Agent Orange in their homeland.
Vietnamese diplomats in Russia celebrated the anniversary together with Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov, President of the Russia-Viet Nam Friendship Association Vladimir Buyakov and local officials.
The Russian guests toasted the Vietnamese people's renewal achievements and the two countries' cooperative ties. They said they believed Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's upcoming visit to Russia would lift the two countries' strategic partnership to a new height.
The Vietnamese community in Russia held a host of cultural performances and sports competitions to mark the homeland's national day.
In India , Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Quang Diem hosted a reception which saw the presence of Indian State Minister of Foreign Affairs E. Ahamed, diplomats from other countries, and Indian friends.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Diem said Viet Nam-India relationship is growing in the fields of politics, security, defence, economy, science and technology and culture and that the two countries aim to increase their trade turnover from 1 billion USD to 2 billion USD in the next three years.
The diplomat went on to say that Vietnamese food and culture will be introduced to Indian people in several events that are to be organised by the Vietnamese embassy and the Viet Nam-India Friendship Association in a bid to promote cultural ties between the two countries.
