ASEAN to approve blueprint to achieve single market

Ha Noi (VNA) – Economic ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are to approve this week a blueprint on how to speed up the bloc’s plans to achieve a single market by 2015.

Philippine Trade Undersecretary Ramon Vicente Kabigting said that ASEAN senior economic officials have finalised the final draft of the blueprint of the ASEAN Economic Community and will present it to the ASEAN economic ministers when they meet in Manila on August 24.

If the blueprint is approved by the economic ministers, it will be adopted by ASEAN leaders when they meet in Singapore in November, Kabigting said.

He added that the blueprint will have a companion document stating ASEAN’s commitments to achieving an economic community by 2015.

ASEAN, which has a market of more than 560 million people, groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.-Enditem
