Bangkok (VNA) – Some 45 million voters went to the polls on August 19 to vote on a new constitution which is said by the interim government to pave the way for a return to democracy in the country.
Local sources said 87,000 polling stations opened at 8:00 am (local time) and closed at 4:00 pm the same day.
In fact, the referendum is a vote of confidence over the interim government which took power after the military coup on September 19, 2006.
In case the charter fails, the government can impose one of Thailand's 17 previous constitutions, the sources said. – Enditem | |
