ASEAN+3 set to beef up media cooperation

Beijing (VNA) - ASEAN and the three nations of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea are set to increase media cooperation as the ASEAN+3 media cooperation forum opened in the Chinese northern port city of Tianjin, on August 21.

Among the topics under discussion included the media’s role in promoting ASEAN+3 cooperation, how to roll out a stronger Asian voice on the international area and cooperation for the success of the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games.

Addressing the forum, Director of the Viet Nam News Agency’s News Department for Foreign Service Nguyen Kim Yen emphasised the importance of and the need for increasing media cooperation within ASEAN+3 for better understanding between people in the region and the fight against information monopoly and distorted information.

The “Strengthening media cooperation, deliver Asian voice” forum was sponsored by the People’s Daily of China with assistance from Tianjin authorities. It was the initiative by Chinese premier Wen Jiabao when attending the 10th ASEAN+3 meeting in the Philippines in January this year.- Endite
