Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Defence Ministry has beefed up its offensive capability by securing a 1 billion USD credit hardware package from Russia , local media reported.
Under the terms of the deal, Russia will supply the Indonesian Defence Ministry with 10 MI-17 helicopters, five MI-35P helicopters, two submarines, 20 infantry vehicles and weapon systems for four Sukhoi jetfighters that are already in service with the country’s Air Force.
The arms purchase will take place between 2007 and 2010, Indonesia ’s Defence Ministry Secretary General Lieu. Gen. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin was quoted as saying after a meeting of the Indonesia-Russia Committee in Moscow on August 20.
Indonesia and Russia on August 21 signed a memorandum of understanding, under which Indonesia will buy six Sukhoi fighter jets from Russia for between 330-350 million USD.-Enditem | |
