Japan promises Indonesia 15 mln USD to fight bird flu

Jakarta (VNA) - Japan has pledged to give Indonesia 1.7 billion yen (close to 15 million USD) in grants in the country’s battle against bird flu.

The decision was made following a joint press conference between visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta on August 20.

President Yudhoyono said that Indonesia and Japan had agreed to cooperate in dealing with bird flu.

"I have offered the Japanese PM bilateral cooperation to develop vaccines which will use virus available in Indonesia for the benefit of the two countries and the global community," he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.-Enditem
