Jakarta (VNA) – Conditions for migrant workers issues are to top the agenda at the ongoing 28th meeting of the ASEAN Inter-parliament Assembly (AIPA) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The rights of migrant workers according to UN commitments is a processing issue for the community of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, said Agung Laksono, head of the Indonesian delegation, on August 21.
Migrant workers should be allowed to hold on to their passports, and should receive fair treatment from their employers, the official stressed.
ASEAN countries in January pledged their commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of migrant workers during the 12th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines. - Enditem | |
