Indonesia, India navies to conduct joint patrols

Jakarta (VNA) - The Indian and Indonesian navies will conduct three week-long coordinated naval patrols in the Andaman Sea in September 2007.

Indonesia ’s News Agency (Antara) cited a press statement from the Indian Embassy saying that two Indian naval ships along with an Indian Naval Domier, will participate in the coordinated patrols.

Indonesia will send a naval ship and a naval aircraft to join the exercise, the news agency said.

Besides carrying out patrols, the ships and aircraft of the two navies
will also carry out exercises at sea to improve interoperability, according to the news agency.

The coordinated patrols are conducted twice every year under a protocol signed by the two navies in August 2002.-Enditem
